HALO Core

A dedicated, evidence-gated workspace for developing a trained EEG intent-communication research prototype.

Current: design in progress Planned: dual prototype Evidence required: performance claims

Capability boundary: HALO Core is not presented as unrestricted thought reading, a medical device, or a field-ready product. Those claims require prototype data, independent testing and any applicable regulatory review.

Project Definition

Problem and intended outcome

Explore whether a wearable, non-invasive EEG system can recognize a small set of deliberately trained user commands and translate them into controlled computer actions.

  • Intended users: research participants and, only after evidence and review, people who may benefit from alternative input methods.
  • First demonstration: repeatable selection from a limited command set in a controlled setting.
  • Success measure: accuracy, latency, false activation rate, comfort, setup time and repeatability reported with full test conditions.

Readiness

What exists and what does not

Current Industrial design direction and component architecture. Current Eight-channel, dual-node prototype concept. Planned Bench assembly, firmware and signal pipeline. Planned Controlled participant protocol. Required Validated accuracy, safety, usability and durability data.

Engineering Build Order

From design in progress to defensible demonstration

  1. Requirements lockFreeze the first command set, test conditions, acceptance thresholds and explicit exclusions.
  2. Bench signal chainValidate electrodes, amplification, isolation, sampling, artifact handling and data integrity before enclosure work.
  3. Prototype AAssemble the first wearable unit for fit, contact quality, thermal and power checks.
  4. Prototype BBuild a matched second unit to expose unit-to-unit variation and assembly weaknesses.
  5. Training softwareCreate consent-aware calibration, labeled trials, versioned models and reproducible evaluation.
  6. Controlled validationMeasure accuracy, latency and false activations. Publish failures and uncertainty alongside results.
  7. Independent gateObtain electrical, privacy, accessibility, ethics and regulatory review before expanding claims or use.
  8. Pilot decisionAdvance, redesign or stop based on evidence, not presentation quality.

Funding Package

What a sponsor funds

  • Two traceable research prototypes and documented assembly procedures.
  • Signal acquisition, training and evaluation software.
  • Participant safeguards, accessibility review and data-governance controls.
  • Independent test support and a reproducible demonstration package.

Governance

Non-negotiable safeguards

  • Informed consent and a clear ability to stop participation.
  • Data minimization, defined retention and controlled access.
  • No covert collection, behavioral scoring or unsupported diagnostic claims.
  • Human approval before external communication or operational action.
  • Documented changes, test versions, incidents and decision owners.
